Blessed - Elton John Living life with blessing
What it means to me
My good friend Thomas Welgemoed first brought the song Blessed by Elton John to my attention. He said it felt like a prophetic message at
a time when he felt life was getting him down. I have since come to appreciate this song in much the same way - when you feel life is getting
you down, remember that you are blessed.
It is David that said that God knows us intimately - even before we are born. In Blessed, Elton John sings of the love a parent might feel
for a child. This reminds me that we have a heavenly Father that loves us and that he wants the best for us. In fact, he blesses us till our
cup overflows.
Yes, at times it might feel that we are alone, no one cares and that we have no blessings. But God promises - and a promise He makes is a
promise He keeps. Yes, you might not feel like it now, but there is a great future for you. And your blessings might not be what you want, but
it will be what you need.
A long time before you were born, God planned you. In a loving way he decided that your eye colour must be the colour it is for his divine
purpose. Even before you can walk in his ways he knew about every step you will take in your life. Before you could speak he knew every
word that you will ever say.
And through life, its ups and downs, remember: You'll be BLESSED. It's a promise!
The Lyrics
Hey you, you're a child in my head
You haven't walked yet
Your first words have yet to be said
But I swear you'll be blessed
I know you're still just a dream
Your eyes might be green
Or the bluest that I've ever seen
Anyway you'll be blessed
And you, you'll be blessed
You'll have the best
I promise you that
I'll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that
I promise you that
Promise you that
You'll be blessed
I need you before I'm too old
To have and to hold
To walk with you and watch you grow
And know that you're blessed
And you, you'll be blessed
You'll have the best
I promise you that
I'll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that
Promise you that you
