What to Look for when you want to find a Life CoachTo find a life coach that is right for you is something you should invest time in. There are many out there, and it doesn't do any harm taking your time to choose the one that's right for you. You'll be spending a lot of time with this person, so you need to make sure you want to spend it with them! Life coaching provides help in becoming more organised, getting important projects underway, making decisions, and even just learning how to enjoy life. You firstly need to determine what use the life coach will be to you. So how do you want your life coach? You need to decide whether you want somebody who will help you follow a path you feel you want to follow, whether you want your life coach to set you assignments and targets, or whether you'd rather have a life coach who acts like a drill-sergeant, verbally giving you the encouragement you need in form of plain old common sense. Your next step in finding a life coach is to consider how you want your life coach to help you. This is incredibly important - but if you have any questions, be sure to ask the people you aim to approach in the future. Ask them exactly how they will support you. In finding a life coach, you must assess the attributes of individuals you may consider. Firstly, what's their experience like? It certainly helps if the life coach has experienced something similar to what you are experiencing. Having someone who has overcome an issue like you have can be incredibly comforting - and whilst this is not necessary, it's desirable to a lot of people. You will also want to consider, during your process of finding a life coach that's right for you, whether or not a prospective coach for you has a background in coaching. You may want to consider what they did before becoming a life coach. Look at the prospective coach's credentials, too. As coaching isn't something anybody can just pick up, and become good at - training is essential. Look for more advanced training as opposed to basic training. Ideally, they need a certificate from a coaching organisation like the International Coach Federation. Also, when you are trying to find a life coach that will work effectively for you, it is advisable to look for somebody who can commit themselves full time. Don't get dragged into the trap of speakers and trainers, who only coach when their other work dries out - not that this in any way makes them bad people. Finally, to find a life coach to work with you, you should take advantage of what most coaches offer, which is a free no-strings attached sample session. If you do this, take along some suggestions of specific topics you would like them to discuss with you, and remember to actively engage in the process of coaching to ensure you know well what it's about and how it works. This is the best path to find a life coach who will work well for you, and the only next step is picking one of the prospective people who you fell will work best for you. Resources |
