Inspirational People -
I remember back in 1990 seeing the reports of the Berlin wall going down and the hushed awe in the room as you watch history being made. Who are the people that made such inspirational change happen? Did they set out to be different or were it normal people that were forced by circumstances to act courageously? Were these people idealists or were they normal people that just decided 'this can not go on!' and took a stand?
Dr. Philip Zimbardo who have studied the flip side of the coin after his experience with the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment, wrote an article recently about the hero in everyone of us. The article, The Banality of Heroism, serves to tell us that by being prepared for when things go awry, we too can act with courage and be inspiring people.
And that is what our study of these inspirational people aim to do: to inspire and prepare us for that moment (or that life) when we need to take a stand, to act courageously and to be a hero - even if no-one notices. "Courage is not the absence of fear, but acting despite of it." We might not conquer all our fears, but by being prepared to act and acting when the time comes, we too can make a difference and inspire others.
